Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA)

A Game-Changer in RADAR Technology

At vasbeam, our comprehensive AESA Radar solutions helps provide air-to-air, air-to-ground, land, and sea superiority for the world’s armed forces.
Radar technology has changed from single functional radars in the seventies to multifunctional radars. Motivated primarily by the advances in the speed and integration of data converters, power amplification and beamforming technologies, VASBEAM's radars display multi-functional capabilities.   For instance, a single radar is capable of simultaneously tracking and acquisition of multiple objects.  The realization of antenna technology that allows the synthesis of multiple beam patterns is the fundamental technology in modern radar systems. Also known as active electronically scanned arrays or simply AESA, such sub-systems are able to generate multiple simultaneously antenna beam patterns.
VASBEAM Radar's  arrays using AESA technology provides the flexibility, adaptability and multiple functionalities that were not possible in early radar systems. Thanks to the advances in data converters and AESA technology using silicon materials, new functionalities were incorporated in many modern radars. In digital signal processing, range-doppler signal processing using two-dimensional FFT for radar applications became a de facto standard and well-known technology in radar systems, the focus shifted towards the implementation of low-cost AESA systems

VASBEAM Multi Functiona Radar

A single AESA system (in this case, AESA with separated transmit and receive arrays is shown) provides the means to obtain multiple functionalities as fast target detection and tracking, robustness to jamming signals. In summary, the multi-beam capability enables tracking of one or more simultaneous targets, multi-target detection, jamming immunity (high side lobe suppression) and simultaneous tracking and search operations.

Key Features of Products

  • Product consists of a complete multi-functional radar systems using AESA technology

  • Multi-beam capability enables tracking of one or more simultaneous targets, multi-target detection, jamming immunity (high side lobe suppression) and simultaneous tracking and search operations AESA accounts for more than 95% of the cost of the complete radar systems

  • Ownership of core technology and components in the AESA system are fundamental for cost reduction of the AESA system.

  • Beamforming technology and power amplification are the main contributors to the overall cost of the system.

  • VASBEAM has ownership of the main beamforming technologies
